Rebecca van Gennip (b.2001) is a Canadian oil painter and art instructor based in Goodwood, Ontario. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree at Queen’s University, with a Major in Visual Art and a Minor in Art History. Rebecca has sat on the Board of Directors for Union Gallery in Kingston and has exhibited at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Elaine Fleck Gallery, Preston Gallery, Art Gallery of Georgina, and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. She has paintings in the Art Gallery of Georgina’s permanent collection. She specializes in interior scenes and still-life that explore the journey of moving forward with grief. Her newest ongoing series explores these themes in relation to past generational love and loss, vulnerability, and emotional resilience.
Dutch seventeenth-century painters inform the connection to her Dutch heritage and the visual style she chooses to convey in her work. Their emotionally charged colour palettes and domestic interiors inspire her to reinvent them in contemporary ways.
